What is in La Levain’s assorted mooncake box?
Four full-sized baked mooncakes, 185g each: two traditional Cantonese and two Momoyama. It is the only La Levain box that carries both styles, so it answers the usual gifting problem of not knowing whether the recipient wants the classics or something newer.
Which flavour combination should I choose?
Two combinations, both four pieces:
Combination one
– Pure White Lotus with Single Yolk (traditional)
– Pure White Lotus with Melon Seeds (traditional)
– Mixed Berry Lotus with Raspberry Rose (Momoyama)
– Uji Matcha White Lotus with Valrhona Yuzu Chocolate (Momoyama)
Combination two
– Red Bean with Mandarin Peel & Matcha Lotus (traditional)
– Pure White Lotus with Melon Seeds (traditional)
– Pure White Lotus with Salted Egg Yolk (Momoyama)
– Chocolate Lotus with Pistachio Crunch (Momoyama)
Pick the first for fruit and matcha, the second for red bean, salted egg and chocolate.
Contains gluten (wheat), tree nuts, egg, peanuts and soy.
What is the difference between the traditional and Momoyama mooncakes in the box?
The skin. A traditional Cantonese mooncake has a dense, glossy brown skin pressed with a moulded pattern, and a lotus paste made the old way with peanut oil. A Momoyama skin is paler and softer, coloured by its own ingredients rather than by browning, and lower in sugar.
Both are baked, and both are made by hand in La Levain’s Singapore kitchen.
Which box should I choose?
Two keepsake formats, four pieces in each:
– Le Coffret · Collector’s Tin — 4 pieces
– La Malle · Travel Trunk — 4 pieces, with a handle
Is an assorted box a good gift?
It is the safest choice when you don’t know someone’s taste. Each box pairs two classics with two of Chef Wythe’s newer flavours, so a recipient who only wants white lotus and salted yolk still has two of them, and the other two are the interesting part.
