Amidst the eclectic charm of hardware stores,

a new artisanal bakery cafe concept has entered the fray – La Levain.

La Levain means starter or leavening agent made from flour and water in French. The baking journey begins with it and the cafe will intrigue you through an experience of the artisanal baking journey with a bevy of French classics and creative bakes.  
With the cosy space outfitted in industrial-like grey interiors, rustic wooden furniture and neon orange lighting, along with a show kitchen to watch fresh bakes being churned out on the spot, this minimalist cafe lets you find your inner calm away from the hustle in a central yet off-beat Jalan Besar enclave. Perfect for cafe-hoppers, dates, social gatherings and family friendly crowds with its provision of cool coloring sets as you enjoy the comforting brunch fare, delish baked treats and specialty coffee.

With an emphasis on artisanal bakes created through Chef Wythe’s personal travel encounters and yearning for new and innovative baking experiences, the selection of pastries is designed to create an experiential journey, one of indulgence in French classics and more baked treats. With you in mind.

Meet The Chef​

Founded by the well-heeled Executive Pastry Chef Wythe Soon who honed his baking skills in Japan, he was previously the head baker at two of Singapore’s most famous cafes. 

Known for his artisanal bakes from insta-worthy cruffins, croissants to light and fluffy panettone made from Italian mother yeast, Chef Wythe is one of the baking maestros who likes to share his baking journey through his travel experiences, be it in search of the finest breads or a mastery of artisanal baking techniques.  

Born into a family that runs a traditional Chinese bakery and pastry business in Malaysia, it is little wonder he has cake and pastry making in his blood coursing through his veins. 

With this powerful synergy with a youthful and passionate Executive Chef – who loves to be involved in research & development and innovate by fusing premium ingredients in his much sought after artisanal bakes.
